Honda will Pass Chrysler for 4th Place in U.S. Sales
According to Automotive News, American Honda is passing Chrysler Group to become the No. 4 auto maker in the United States. Through November, American Honda had sold 1.044 million units, holding a 200,000-unit lead over Chrysler. At this time last year, Chrysler led Honda by 21,000 units and squeaked out a 25,000-unit victory at year's end. “We only look at our sales and our objective,” said John Mendel, American Honda vice president. “We may look at Civic and Corolla or Accord and Camry, but not at who ranks where.” Mendel says the current recession has thrown everyone's sales numbers into confusion. “We are all in the same hospital, and some of us are more critical than others,” he said. “Everyone is hurting. We cut Formula One. We cut 200,000 units of production. It was the right thing to do, but it was painful.” He added: “Either you pay in production cuts, increased fleet sales or increased incentives, but everyone is paying right now.” Click here for more from Automotive News on Honda’s recent sales figures.

Cash For Clunkers...Gov't Program...This July?

Congress is poised to pass the so-called "Cash for Clunkers" program that would offer vouchers of $3,500 or $4,500 for consumers who turn in gas-guzzling vehicles for new, more fuel-efficient models. Passage is still not certain, however.
Eligble for trade-in: Cars and light trucks rated 18 mpg or less; large pickups/SUVs at 15 mpg or less; work trucks built before 2002. Is your car officially a clunker? Search the database provided by The Detroit News... Check here

Economic Stimulus For Auto Dealerships?

"President Obama Signs Auto Tax Deductions into Law Yesterday...
President Barack Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The new law contains a provision designed to entice auto consumers back into vehicle showrooms.
This provision applies to eligible purchases between February 17, 2009 and December 31, 2009.
Qualifying consumers may now deduct:
· State motor vehicle sales taxes
· Local motor vehicle sales taxes
· Motor vehicle excise taxes Consumer Qualifications:
· Individual taxpayers whose adjusted gross income is less than $125,000 per year
· Joint-filers whose combined adjusted gross income is less than $250,000 per year
· Itemizers and non-itemizers who may deduct taxes "above-the-line" on their federal tax returns.
Eligible Vehicles:
· All new model year vehicles currently on dealers' lots that have no prior purchase history
· New passenger cars and light trucks retailing up to $49,500 may collect full tax deductions. For all vehicles above this price, consumers may deduct sales taxes on the first $49,500
· The vehicle must weigh less than 8,500 pounds total."
The above news couldn't have come at a better time! According to Automotive New, U.S. auto sales are at a 27-year low and for the first time in history, sales have fallen below the number of cars and light trucks in China!
We (Space Coast Honda) are trying our part to promote a sales stimulus in our market area with an Employee Pricing program on all new Hondas -- a little profit is better than none! Unfortunately, the age old law of "supply and demand" has raised its ugly head among many dealerships in the country, showing a significant amount of over supply and lack of demand for new vehicles.
